Texas is inching closer to join 13 states in raising its smoking age to 21.

In Austin, the House approved Senate Bill 21 to raise all tobacco products, which includes cigarettes and e-cigarettes, to 21. People in the armed forces is exempt from this bill.

The bill will head back to the Senate and, if approved, will go to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk.

Last September, the FDA labeled the increase in teen vaping as an epidemic.

In Texas, almost 1 in 3 high schoolers and 1 in 10 middle schoolers have tried vaping, according to a survey.

The CDC says that there was a 78 percent increase in e-cigarette use in middle and high school students from 2017 to 2018.
