AAC 3rd Highest Food Inspection Violation Sports Venue In America; Other DFW Venues Aren't Much Better

December 14, 2018

A new study into food safety inspections at professional sporting venues throughout North America turns up some startling data -- especially in North Texas.

ESPN collected almost 17,000 food safety inspection reports from 2016 and 2017 that cover the 111 professional sports venues in the U.S. and Canada.

Of those, the American Airlines Center showed the third highest rate of high-level violations.

It reports of the 65 outlets inspected, 54 of them had high-level violations, including moldy strawberries, insects near a bar area and a contaminated ice machine.

Globe Life Park didn't fare much better -- 156 outlets were inspected, with 111 of them turning up high-level violations, including the presence of a live roach and bird droppings.

AT&T Stadium had 149 out of 319 inspected outlets with high-level violations, including a live roach at one vendor.

The venue with the highest rate of high-level violations was the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., with violations occurring at 92-percent of outlets inspected.

The best performing venue was Oracle Arena in Oakland -- of the 89 outlets inspected, only one had a high-level violation.
