Wednesday morning Dec. 7, 2016, it was revealed on ‘TODAY’ that TIME has named Donald Trump for their person of the year. “To be on the cover of Time as Person of the Year is a tremendous honor,” Trump told Matt Lauer after the reveal.
As most people know the magazine’s editors choose the person or sometimes idea that has influenced the news or world the most over the past year whether it is for good or not.
“So which is it this year: Better or worse? The challenge for Donald Trump is how profoundly the country disagrees about the answer,” TIME managing editor Nancy Gibbs wrote in a magazine essay.
The President-elect beat ten other finalists for the spot including Hillary Clinton who came in second.
This will be the tenth time Trump has appeared on the magazine’s cover.
