Denton was one of the first cities in North Texas to ban texting while driving and after last night’s city council meeting, talking while driving is next. In a 6-1 vote, in 6 months, drivers will be banned from hand held devices. Checking emails, social media, taking pics, and even using your GPS will be prohibited. If caught, drivers will face fines up to $200.
For those who like to chat and drive, there is a silver lining. Hands free use will still be allowed, so be sure to set up your Blutooth.
In spite of the text ban, distracted driving accidents increased in Denton County with phone usage accounting for 31 percent of those crashes. Officials are hoping that a flat-out ban will improve these numbers.
