If you purchased, or maybe won tickets from Jack to see Sarah Silverman at Winstar over the 4th of July weekend, chances are, you were disappointed to learn that the comedienne was a no-show. Okay, perhaps that’s a bit dramatic, she did give notice, but Silverman had good reason to postpone the show.
It turns out, Sarah Silverman suffers from epiglottitis, a disease that can cause severe swelling of the epiglottis, the cartilage that covers the windpipe and keeps food and other foreign objects from entering the lungs. However, if swelling is severe enough, the epiglottis can restrict the windpipe, causing suffocation.
Silverman underwent surgery at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Due to low blood-pressure, she was unable to be anesthetized during recovery and spent a week in the ICU. She says the recovery was so painful, her hands were restrained to prevent her from removing her breathing tube.
A new date for Sarah Silverman at Winstar has yet to be determined, but hang on to your ticket. It will give you access to the rescheduled performance.
