The woman who claims to have coined the phrase “Supermodel” has revealed that she has early stage ductal carcinoma in situ or DCIS. Dickinson’s doctor discovered a lump during a routine check-up and a mammogram confirmed the lump is malignant. DCIS is considered a highly treatable form of breast cancer and, when identified in the early stages, is often treated with a lumpectomy or mastectomy. Chemotherapy is usually not necessary unless the cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
Dickinson, 61, said she finds the diagnosis particularly frightening, given that her mother passed away from cancer, but is determined to beat it. Dickinson’s treatments will be documented on “The Doctors,” beginning April 6. More here.
