There is an unspoken rule that you just don’t mess with old folks on bingo night. Case in point: an 84-year-old Florida man shot pepper-spray at a security guard at a bingo event at a retirement community near Orlando.

According to Click Orlando, 67-year-old Michael Burke was on guard duty at the community center, and he had used crates to reserve a pair of handicapped parking spaces for a pair of ladies who regularly attend the bingo event. While there were plenty of other handicapped spots open and available, Donald Handa wanted one of the reserved spaces, so he moved the crates and took a spot.

It’s not clear whether or not he had a handicapped placard or sticker on his car, but when Burke tried to confront Handa, that’s when he says Handa pulled out a can of pepper-spray and hosed him.

Handa claims that Burke has had it out for him for a couple of weeks and that he feared for his life when Burke confronted him about moving his car. Burke admits that there was a recent disagreement however nothing that would warrant a need for self-defense.

No charges were pressed, and Handa was asked to leave the facility for the night. He also agreed to leave the reserved spots for the less fortunate.

If this and the story of a teen yelling a false “bingo” are any indicators, it’s just safer to stay out of the way of the elderly on their way to bingo.
