We’ve been recapping the best moments of 2012 here at Jack FM, and some of those moments included sports.

So we had Nate, Jack’s sports expert, compile our list of the best DFW sports moments of the year.

Here’s the list:

10. The Red River Massacre 10/13/12

The Red River Rivalry turned int a massacre this year. Oklahoma destroys Texas 63-21 in their annual meeting at Dallas’ Cotton Bowl.

9. TCU Joins The Big 12

Yes, there are college teams in north Texas. TCU joins the Big 12 who then go on to lose their starting QB Casy Pachall to drug charges. The Horned Frogs were 4-0 under Pachall, and went 3-6 without him.

8. Yu Darvish

The Yu Darvish experiment seems to be a success. Winning 16 games in his first year in the MLB.

7. No-Season At All

At least the Mavs and Rangers HAD a season to HAVE an off-season. We haven’t seen any Stars in DFW since the NHL is currently locking out their players with no end to the dispute in sight.

6. Off-Seasons To Forget About

The Rangers weren’t the only Dallas pro organization to have a rough off-season. The Mavs lose out the Deron Williams sweepstakes, then to make matters worse, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry bolt town for the east coast.

5. Cowboys One Game Away Twice

The Cowboys were one game away from the playoffs not once, but twice in 2012 and blew it both times. The ‘Boys lose a New Years matchup to the NY Giants 31-10 to be denied the playoffs. To make matters worse, the Giants would go on to be Super Bowl Champs. The Cowboys then manage to fall to the Redskins 28-18 on December 30th. We’ll see if the Redskins have the same luck.

4. Jerry Brown

The death of Dallas Cowboys practice squad player Jerry Brown was shocking to most. To make matters worse, Cowboys DT Josh Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

3. Bye Bye Josh

The Rangers lose Josh Hamilton. To make matters worse, he signs with the rival Angels. Josh leaving combined with the next item on our list has left the Rangers with a pretty nasty black-eye this off-season.

2. Michael Young Trade

Rangers trade away long-time club leader, Michael Young to the Phillies. It was supposed to set up a major off-season acquisition that never happened. Whoops.

1. The Rangers Choke

Rangers choke away 2012 season. Blowing division lead, and then losing in one-game Wild Card playoff. Better luck next year.
