Those that know Dave Grohl often rave about two of his personal traits, his sense of humor and incredible generosity.

According to the Philadelphia Enquirer, Mr. Foo Fighters left a rather sizable tip at a post-wedding bash in Philly a few weeks ago.

According to the report, Grohl left two $1000 tips, one each night at the Smith & Wollensky bar at the Rittenhouse Hotel. Dave left Friday night’s jumbo-sized tip after having just one drink Friday night. Saturday night’s tip followed a few cocktails.

It’s presumable that the wait staff were likely singing to the tune of “My Hero” when they opened their paycheck.
In addition to playing a few large festival shows this summer, Dave Grohl is editing his documentary titled Sound City. The documentary is named after the legendary recording studio in Van Nuys, California and spans the facility’s 4-decade history.

Sound City gained notoriety in the mid-70s as the studio where Fleetwood Mac recorded their bestselling albums. Grohl himself actually worked there in 1991. Nirvana famously recorded Nevermind there. Sound City played home to Neil Young, Johnny Cash and more recently the Arctic Monkeys.

Grohl told Variety “Sound City is a film about America’s greatest unsung recording studio… It was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history.” He plans to release the film through the Foo Fighters’ own Roswell record label.
