Happy 50th Birthday to ex-Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb!!

And to mark the occasion, Jack FM is making “It’s My Life” our Song of the Day!!

Why?  Because it’s our life, and we can do what we want.

Formed in London in 1981, New Wave band Talk Talk first found success with the release of their debut album, The Party’s Over.  It peaked at No. 21 on the U.K. Albums chart and produced two singles, “Today” and “Talk Talk.”  Both were international hits, with the latter landing at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It’s My Life followed in February 1984, and it brought the band even more worldwide fame.  The single “Such a Shame” was a Top 10 smash in several European countries, as was the title track.  “It’s My Life” also cracked the Top 40 in the U.S., becoming the band’s highest-charting single stateside.

By 1986, Talk Talk had abandoned New Wave in favor of a more organic rock sound.  This change in musical direction was reflected on the band’s third album, The Colour of Spring.  Selling more than two million copies, The Colour of Spring was Talk Talk’s most successful album.  It peaked at No. 8 in the U.K., and the single “Life’s What You Make It” was a Top 20 hit.

Talk Talk released two more albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock, before disbanding in 1992.

Check out Talk Talk performing their 1984 hit “Such a Shame.”  We think they could have used more smoke.
