This coming February, The Simpsons, could break another world record, in celebration of the shows 500th episode, on Sunday, February 15th.
Fox is inviting fans of the show to participate in a marathon that will hopefully break the record for the longest continuous television viewing.
The current Guinness World Record is 86 hours, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds.
The “Ultimate Fan Marathon Challenge” will be held at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles and will begin on Wednesday, February 8th. These super fans will attempt to watch 500 continuous episodes (that’s 250 hours) through February 19th. The fan that beats the record and lasts the longest will take home a whopping $10,500 and some special merchandise.
The Simpsons currently holds the world records for longest running animated series, the longest running sitcom, and most Emmy Awards won for an animated series.
The creators of The Simpsons have parodied the Guinness World Records already in the show, with an attempt by Springfield to build the tallest human pyramid, and instead Springfield is deemed the world’s fattest town.
Let’s hope the real life attempt to break a world record has a better outcome.
The Simpsons, now in its 23rd season, airs Sundays at 7:00 pm on Fox and is full of guest voices this spring including Lady Gaga, Michael Cera, Bryan Cranston, Armie Hammer, Jeremy Irons, and Glen Close.
