Because Jack FM is in the holiday spirit (yes, we’ve been chugging the eggnog), we’re making [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]John Mellencamp[/lastfm]’s “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” our Song of the Day!
Any more eggnog, and we’ll be the one going to first base with St. Nick…
With over 40 million albums sold, John Mellencamp is one of the most successful artists to come from America’s heartland. Throughout his four-decade career, Mellencamp has released such classic albums as American Fool, Uh-huh, Scarecrow, The Lonesome Jubilee and Mr. Happy Go Lucky. He has scored 22 Top 40 hits, with seven of his singles going to No.1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, the most for a solo musician.
In 1987, at the peak of his commercial popularity, John Mellencamp recorded a version of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” for the compilation album A Very Special Christmas. The first in a series, A Very Special Christmas sold four million copies in the U.S. and featured a variety of holiday tunes from such ’80s icons as [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eurythmics[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Madonna[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Run D.M.C.[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bon Jovi[/lastfm]. Proceeds from the album went to benefit the Special Olympics.
As for John Mellencamp, he continues to record and perform. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s most recent release was 2010’s No Better Than This, and just last month, he wrapped a fall tour of the same name.
Remember the video for John Mellencamp’s “Hurts So Good?” It looks just like a Jack FM family holiday gathering.
