Debbie Harry: The Internet Sucks!

Debbie Harry says bluntly that “the Internet ruined the music industry.”
In an interview with the British-based website Bang Showbiz, the voice and face of Blondie claims the record business has been in trouble ever since people began copying LPs onto cassettes. It’s just worse now. “Computers and the Internet and downloading songs completely ruined the music industry and everything artists used to work for.”
She’s on the same page as Pete Townshend of The Who. Speaking last week in Salford, England, the guitarist-songwriter says he believes the Internet is “destroying copyright as we know it.”
While sales of CDs have declined sharply over the last decade, legal digital sales for the first 10 months of 2011 have already surpassed the total for all of 2010.
