A few weeks ago the good people over at Rolling Stone, asked their readers what were the 10 worst songs of the 1990’s. So obviously their next move had to be to do the same for the 1980’s.

This list has some stinkers on it to be sure, but I would have to disagree with a few of these picks.

10. “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley

A song so bad that it has become a running internet joke. You can now officially say that you have been Rickrolled by Jack FM.

9. “Puttin’ On The Ritz” by Taco

Puttin’ On The Ritz” was written in 1929, and has been recorded by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Fred Astaire [/lastfm]and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Judy Garland[/lastfm]. For some reason I don’t think [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Taco[/lastfm] quite made it to same level as others who recorded this song.

8. “Mickey” by Toni Basil

They should have given this video a larger budget than $22.50.

7. “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin

Everybody is sick of this song. Even Bobby McFerrin refuses to sing it anymore.

6. “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco

Europeans aren’t faring too well on this list. First Taco now [lastfm link_type=”similar_artist_radio”]Falco[/lastfm].

5. “The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats

WHAT!?!? Unbelievable! This song belongs nowhere near this list. Erroneous, I demand a recount!

4. “Wake Me Up” by Wham!

And another European band. What is everyone’s problem with Europe?

3. “Lady In Red” by Chris de Burgh

Personally I prefer his lesser known hit “Damsel In Blue”.

2. “The Final Countdown” by Europe

Hands down best keyboard intro in the history of music.

1. “We Built This City” by Jefferson Starship

Fitting that a song Blender called the Most Awesomely Bad Song of All time, is the worst thing the 80’s had to offer. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jefferson Airplane[/lastfm] was awesome, Starship not so much. If I was going to build a city I think I would use concrete, steel, and bricks not Rock n’ Roll.

There you have it the worst songs of the 1980’s. Time for some ear bleach. Man there was a lot of synthesizer on that.  However, any list of the worst 80’s music that includes “The Safety Dance” and not “We Are The World” is a bit suspect in my book.

Thanks to Rolling Stone and its readers for putting that list together.
