Former [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Weezer[/lastfm] bassist and visual artist Micky Welsh was found dead over the weekend in a Chicago hotel, but it’s an eerie tweet from Welsh himself that is sparking some chatter.
According to rollingstone.com, Welsh, 40, was found unresponsive on Saturday in his Chicago’s Raffaello Hotel room after he failed to make his 1 p.m. checkout.
Cause of death is unknown, but no foul play is expected.
Welsh sent an eerie tweet on September 26th stating, “dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today.”
Welsh teamed up with frontman Rivers Cuomo in 1997 with Cuomo’s band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Homie[/lastfm] while Weezer was on hiatus.
Welsh joined Weezer in 1998 after bassist Matt Sharp left the band, and made his first live appearance in the summer of 2000.
Welsh only worked on one Weezer album, 2001’s Green Album, which some would argue was their best album.
However, later that year, Welsh left the band in what was later revealed as a nervous breakdown and other mental health issues.
After Welsh left the band he became a successful visual artist, with his works appearing on Burton snowboards and album covers.
A statement on the band’s website reads in part, “When he emerged from his nervous breakdown that spelled his exit from the rock ‘n’ roll world, he took on a new role as an astonishing and pure visual artist.” They continued to say, “It was a glorious flowering of a talent he always possessed, but he had chosen to rock out first, paint later.”
Welsh was actually in Chicago to catch a Weezer show at RIOTfest on Sunday.
R.I.P. Mikey. Here are a couple Weezer videos from their Green Album while Welsh was a member of the band. Enjoy…
