Jack FM is making “Big Foot,” the new single from [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chickenfoot[/lastfm], our Song of the Day!
You know, we once saw the legendary Bigfoot while on a camping trip to Yosemite. We thought we had taken a picture of it… turns out there wasn’t any film in the camera.
Damn our luck.
Whatever you do, don’t call Chickenfoot a “supergroup.”
Says [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Sammy Hagar[/lastfm] of the band: “We’re not a supergroup, we like hanging out together and the music is a bonus. We just happen to be in other groups.”
Hagar, along with former [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Van Halen[/lastfm] bassist Michael Anthony and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Red Hot Chili Peppers [/lastfm]drummer Chad Smith, began jamming together for the fun of it at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo bar in Mexico. Soon, people were asking the trio when they were going to make a record and tour. Deciding that the time was right for a new band, Hagar recruited guitarist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Joe Satriani[/lastfm], and Chickenfoot was born.
Chickenfoot’s first performance together was at a 2008 Hagar concert in Las Vegas. The band played a three-song set, and the audience absolutely loved it.
With momentum on their side, Chickenfoot hit the studio to begin work on their first album. Chickenfoot was released in June 2009 and debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart, eventually selling half a million copies. Fans everywhere were reveling in the band’s high-energy, kick-ass rock n’ roll, a sound that was sorely missing in the music scene. The album contained the singles “Soap on a Rope,” “Down the Drain” and “Oh Yeah,” which peaked at #21 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
After a brief tour through Europe and America and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, drummer Chad Smith returned to his duties with the Chili Peppers, forcing Chickenfoot to go on a temporary hiatus.
Once Smith had finished the new Chili Peppers’ album, he rejoined his Chickenfoot bandmates in the studio for their second endeavor. Recorded earlier this year, Chickenfoot III will be released on September 27th. The album will feature an exclusive 3-D cover, and its first single, “Big Foot,” is Jack’s Song of the Day.
Chickenfoot plans to hit the road in the fall. However, Kenny Aronoff will likely be filling in for Smith, who will be busy touring with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Here’s the video for Chickenfoot’s first single, “Oh Yeah.” Is it just us, or does anyone else think Chad Smith looks a little like Will Ferrell??
