Jack FM once had a pet goldfish named Rhiannon.
Sadly, our cat Layla ate it.
Rolling Stone magazine once referred to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Stevie Nicks [/lastfm] as the “reigning Queen of Rock & Roll.” And it’s easy to see why. Stevie has been rocking our world for over forty years.
Stevie Nicks first got her start in 1973 when she and then-boyfriend [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lindsey Buckingham[/lastfm] recorded and released the album, Buckingham Nicks. The album commercially flopped, and the two were dropped from their record label.
In 1974, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Mick Fleetwood[/lastfm] was looking for a guitarist for his band, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Fleetwood Mac[/lastfm]. He offered the gig to Lindsey Buckingham, but he said he would only join if Stevie could join, too. They were, after all, a “packaged deal.” Mick relented, and a supergroup was born.
1977 saw the release of the band’s Rumours album. That album rose to the top of the charts and stayed at # 1 for an astonishing 31 weeks. It spawned four Top 10 singles, including the Stevie Nicks-penned “Dreams, which is the band’s first and only number one hit in the U.S. To date, Rumours has sold over 40 million copies worldwide and is the ninth-biggest selling album of all time.
Stevie Nicks had her own catalog of songs she had written over the years and decided it was time to go solo in 1981. Her first album, Bella Donna, proved Stevie could be successful without Fleetwood Mac. It sold 8 million copies and included four hit singles: “Stop Dragging My Heart Around,” “Leather and Lace,” “Edge of Seventeen,” and “After the Glitter Fades.”
Over the next 20 years, Stevie Nicks continued with Fleetwood Mac while releasing her own albums and leaving her mark on the music world.
In May 2011, Stevie released her seventh solo album, In Your Dreams. The album, co-produced by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dave Stewart[/lastfm] of the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eurythmics[/lastfm], debuted at # 6 on the Billboard 200 chart and gave Stevie her fifth Top 10 album. Rolling Stone magazine said of the album, “It’s not just Stevie’s first album in ten years, it’s her finest collection of songs since the ’80s.”
The second single from In Your Dreams is “Soldier’s Angel,” and it’s Jack’s Song of the Day. Stevie says the song is about the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. It also reunites Stevie with her musical soulmate, Lindsey Buckingham, who plays guitar and sings backup on the track.
Stevie Nicks recently wrapped up the Heart and Soul Tour with fellow music icon, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rod Stewart[/lastfm].
